Four BIG questions summaries
Why do we sleep?- All mammals have to sleep, or else they die. Deprivation of sleep will kill you quicker than if you don't eat. N0body really knows why. While we are awake, a substance builds up in the brain and sleep removes it. For part of the night, the brain idles in an energy conserving state called slow-wave sleep. It can clean up while you are unconcious.
Why do we die when we do?- It is the second law of thermodynamics. Everything in the world, no matter what part of time, eventually will break down. Humans last longer than almost any species in the world. Some would reason that it is the humans intelligence that makes us hard to kill. For the number of heart beats that we have in our life, we live much longer than we should, and they can't figure out why.
What causes gravity?- Issac Newton figured out gravity in the late 1600s. It is generated by a massless particle and dubbed it into graviton. As of right now, mathematics is the best way to get gravity to square with subtomic forces. Another problem is even if we find out answers to these questions within the next 30 years, we will only have more questions.
Why don't we understand turbulence?- Turbulence is the airplane's sudden loss of lift, and it can be very deadly. Change in certain conditions, such as speed, viscosity, surrounding space can result in chaos. When a stream of water or air goes turbulent, groups of molecules form vortices of widely varying sizes that interact in seemingly random ways.
